16Process Mapping
Process mapping is a key tool in problem-solving, particularly in lean methodology. It visually represents workflow processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. By defining process scope and boundaries, gathering information, and creating a visual map, bottlenecks and waste can be pinpointed. One common technique is the SIPOC diagram, which outlines Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, and Customers. For example, in e-commerce order fulfillment, suppliers provide raw materials, inputs include customer orders, the process involves picking and packing, outputs are packed orders, and customers are end-users. SIPOC diagrams help clarify process boundaries and optimize operations.
